The specifics of J-37 was a leaf spring used to return the lever. Keys had black oval plastic base inscribed "J-37" and either brass or nickel plated screws. The levers were made of nickel plated or black anodized steel.

J-37 key was a principal part of several other US Signal Corps keys incl. J-43, J-44, J-45 and J-47 so there was a real "J-37 Family of Keys" around.
