J-5-A - Flameproof straight key of US Signal Corps. Key contacts were completely enclosed to allow J-5-A to be used in explosive environments without the danger of the contact sparks igniting an explosion.

The J-5 family of flameproof telegraph keys was manufactured in the USA from about 1918. This J-5-A key was made by L.S.Brach Mfg Co. Another key that we have in our collection, Key for No.48 Set which actually was a J-5-A key with a toggle switch added, was made by Western Electric.
